COQUITLAM - A Growing City
"The Spirit of the River ... the Strength
of the People"
City of Coquitlam web site - www.gov.coquitlam.bc.ca
Description: Coquitlam is one of the fastest
growing municipalities in the Greater Vancouver
Regional District. Populated by a multi-cultural
mix of Europeans, East Indians, Chinese, Japanese,
and French-Canadians, the city's growth has been
characterized by the development of neighbourhoods.
Those neighbourhoods house established communities
as well as new, modern, suburban communities.
- The Southwest is the oldest part of Coquitlam
with a mix of heritage buildings, modern buildings,
and industrial activity.
- The Town Centre is a new and planned residential
and commercial area. It's home to many of Coquitlam's
community services and one of the region's major
malls.
- The Westwood Lands is a mixed residential
area with walking trails and two golf courses.
- The Northeast is home to major natural parks.
Currently older homes predominate in the area,
but future plans allow for the development of
mixed housing.
Location: The City of Coquitlam is located
30 kilometres east of Vancouver on Highway 7.
It's bordered by the Fraser River to the northeast,
by Burnaby and New Westminster to the west, and
Pitt Meadows to the east. Northeast Coquitlam
includes the lower slopes of the Coquitlam, Eagle,
and Burke Mountains up to 1600 metres.
Population: 110, 800
